Because I am a sheep

I've been admiring the Sleepy Hollow socks since the Yarn Harlot blogged about her version. A weak moment in the yarn store had me bringing home this:

and this:

I love the color of the Brigg's & Little Durasport "Mulberry" yarn and the green OYT might be socks for my mom.

And then I hurried over to Oceanwind Knits and bought the Sleepy Hollow PDF!

I've been busy watching Olympics and knitting away on the 70st sized sock. Since the pattern repeat is 14 sts and 14 x 5 = 70, I deviated a bit from the pattern and instead of having the vertical lines running down the back of the sock, I've continued the leaf pattern. I love the pattern and the heel is such fun.

I've also been out of town for a few days and while I was in BC, found cute LYS/ quilt shop and bought this:

Fair Trade

A coworker of G's keeps bees. He promised me some of his honey and it is truly amazing stuff. It tastes like caramel rather than honey and I think it may seriously impede my efforts to lose weight as I'm eating it by the spoonful!

He does not accept cash for honey and I decided to make him a pair of thrummed mittens as payment.

They are my generic mitten pattern with staggered thrums on every 6th stitch of every 4th row. I used Briggs and Little Woolen Mills Country Roving as thrums and miscellaneous black wool I had in my stash.

Fair Trade? I think it's a sweet deal!

Do I have too much yarn?

Yesterday was 100 Day at the kid's school.

The primary grades celebrate the 100th day of classes by having fun activities involving the number 100. It's a way of making math concepts fun and making the otherwise dreary winter days of February a bit more exciting. One of the assignments they have to complete at home before 100 Day is to bring in a collection of 100 somethings.

M asked if he could bring in 100 snippets of yarn. "It's ok if you don't have 100 different balls to snip from, I don't mind having some repeated," he said. We had sort of forgotten until he woke up that he had to bring the project to school, so while he got ready for school, I began snipping. He put it all together with time to spare.

I guess I must have been in denial about the size of my stash. I never really thought I had that much yarn, but I was able to sit on the couch and snip 100 bits of yarn off different balls and skeins without leaving the couch. After M had left for school, I noticed that I hadn't even touched the stash in the laundry closet.

It really does beg the question, "Do I have too much yarn?"

Generic Mittens - pattern is up!

We've had a fun and crazy weekend. Both M & B competed in the James Bay Interclub Figure Skating Competition. They did well! Both received bronze medals in their free skates and B also came 4th and 7th in spins and elements. Our club (due to our awesome and amazing coach) came in first in the competition. We had the highest point standings!

But all this fun prevented much knitting. I have finished preparing the pdf for the Generic Mittens.

download now

There are two files to download. One is the blog posts in full rambling mode and the other is a pattern that summarizes the ramblings. Enjoy!
