This morning there was a chubby bird with a bright red spot on the back of his head poking along the sidewalk. B wondered kind of bird it, was so all off us, Dog included, hopped on the couch and peered out the window.

.Looks like a wood pecker to me, digging for insects in the cracks and seams of the sidewalk. He really waddles when he walks. Much more graceful, "walking" up and down the trees!

Hey Pogknits - what you have there is a "northern flicker", and yes, it's in the woodpecker family. We had the same visitor this summer as well. Beautiful bird!
